Prostate Cancer Is Curable With Early Detection

Prostate cancer can be fatal. It affects around 50% of men over the age of 60 and over 90% of men by the age of 80. However, if prostate cancer disease is detected early, it can be fully curable. As symptoms for prostate cancer are not in many cases displayed, routine screening is therefore advised for men in these age groups.

Poor prostate health can lead to a number of conditions that range from simple bacterial infections through to prostate cancer. Thus, it is important to have and maintain good prostate health.

The prostate gland may only be a very small gland however it’s positioning around the urethra i.e. the tube that takes urine out of the body, means that any inflammation or growth that results from poor prostate health can cause major problems with regards to urination. Imagine a small ball with a drinking straw inserted straight through it, well this is how the prostate gland encompasses the urethra. Thus when the prostate swells the tube is constricted and the normal flow of urine is affected.

There are a number of factors thought to be related to poor prostate health including diet, exercise, genetics, age, race and hormone levels. Unfortunately, it is only possible to control a few of these factors and so the ones that can be influenced should be from a young age.
